Earlier today, Emma Watson — aka Hermione from the "Harry Potter" movies — was a top trending topic on Twitter. I clicked on her name to see just what the 20-year-old cutie was up to these days (or maybe what trouble she had found herself in) and discovered that — SHOCK! GASP! THE HORROR! — she had cut her hair really short. Seriously, that's what's make the Twitter Trending Topic list these days.
Truth be told, though, Brown University's most famous rising sophomore looks cute as ever with the new look (see above) and it got me thinking about other famous starlets who have spent a couple extra hours under the mercy of their hairdressers' (or their own) clippers. At one extreme are the likes of Britney Spears, Demi Moore, and Natalie Portman, who went with the nearly bald look to varied effects (crazy vs. hardc*re soldier vs. gorgeous as always). The next level up seems to be this Emma Watson/Carey Mulligan/Halle Berry look, which, truth be told, probably has too much of a boyishness to it for most guys' tastes. Then comes the Rihanna, Keira Knightley, and Paris Hilton styles, where it's all about the bangs. At the longest of the short do's, are those of the likes of Cate Blanchett, Michelle Williams, and Heidi Klum, which seem to be slicked back (at least in fashion photos) and so probably appear shorter than they really are.
Why my sudden interest in short-haired girls, who, I discovered in my research, are sporting what are most commonly called "pixie" or "Twiggy" cuts (and in some corners considered "chemo chic")? Because the advertisement that keeps playing over and over and over again on TV these days is the iPhone 4 commercial where the girl reveals to her boyfriend via FaceTime her "so short" haircut. The guy seems shocked at first but ultimately decides it's "really, really cute" (what else is he going to say?).
And so all of this got me wondering: What do you think of girls with short hair cuts? Is it hot or not? At the end of the day, do you just want a girl whose hair you can grab on to during sex?
