So... You know by now that I'm a big Hunter S. Thompson evangelist. Like, we established that a long, long time ago, right? The other day I mentioned my borderline insane excitement for the forthcoming adaptation of Hunter's novel, "The Rum Diary." The movie is long-awaited amongst legions of the Gonzo Tribe and, just today, the first theatrical trailer has arrived! If you like booze and general debauched self-destruction, it's a hell of a read (as are all of Hunter's books). Johnny Depp, who played Hunter himself in "Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas," plays Paul Kemp, a boozy journalist who goes to Puerto Rico to hit the bottle every day of the week and file copy for a newspaper called "The San Juan Star." His smoking hot love interest, Chenault, is played by Amber Heard. In the director's chair is Bruce Robinson, the genius behind the saucy cult British comedy, "Withnail and I." The trailer for "Rum Diary" doesn't disappoint at all. In fact, it almost sends a chill down the spine to hear Depp in that deep, Dr. Gonzo baritone we all loved in Terry Gilliam's adaptation of "Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas." Am I excited? Fuck yes.
