Judging by the enthusastic reactions from video game nerds such as myself, this game might be the first true masterpiece for Xbox One and Playstation Four. During it's presentation at E3, Ubisoft and Massive unveiled details about Tom Clancy's The Division, an open-world RPG shooter. Some important details, via IGN:
The Division focuses on a 2001 operation called Darkwinter, which "revealed how vulnerable we've become." A trailer explained that society has become "fragile" and "complex" and noted that consumers spend millions on Black Friday and discusses how a pathogen could wipe out shoppers simply by being passed along via cash. The trailer discussed how after a few days, the stock market would collapse, we'd lose power, and much more as society essentially collapsed. "Directive 51," signed in 2007, is said to be be preventing that.
The reveal trailer with the backstory is above. Watch that first. Then press play on the gameplay trailer below. I've been lukewarm on the Xbox One, but now I CAN'T FREAKING WAIT to play this. Damn, Ubisoft, way to bring your A-game to E3 this year. The scenes of a post-apocalyptic New York hellscape are haunting and the gameplay looks surreal. This is going to be fun.
