Russell Brand was invited on Morning Joe today to discuss his new stand-up comedy tour Messiah Complex, but the interview quickly went off the rails. And it wasn't really Brand's fault.
Host Mika Brzezinski starts the interview by saying—about the guy SITTING RIGHT THERE—"Joining us now, he's a really big deal. I know, I'm told this. I'm not really pop culture." And then it gets worse from there. The two co-hosts, Katty Kay and Brian Shactman, continue to make jokes at Brand's expense, and, at the 4:30-mark, Shactman follows up a thoughtful Brand point on the differences between stand-up and film with, "When I see him in person, it's fine... but on satellite radio in the car, I can't understand a single joke he says!" Brand correctly points out that the moron "journalists" across the table are treating him like an extraterrestrial being. So he does their job for them.
Even if you don't like Brand's shtick, you'll appreciate how he masterful a take-down this is. Also, if you've never seen Morning Joe before, welcome to this version of televised hell.
