Here’s some news that’s sure to piss off ‘South Park’ fans

South Park has always been a groundbreaking show.

South Park has accomplished things the likes of which no other television show will ever come close, not just with content, but with the way they present their product to fans. But a new deal with Hulu Plus seems like it will piss of a ton of South Park fans — especially the cheap bastards not willing to pay for content.

Every South Park episode has always been available, for free, on the official South Park website. A new deal with Hulu Plus will bring all of that to a end.

At the Television Critics Association press tour, Hulu announced a deal with South Park studios to stream the entire South Park library on Hulu Plus. All 17 seasons will be available on Hulu for free up until the 18th season premiere on Comedy Central on September 24th. Then the entire South Park library — including the new episodes — will move over to Hulu Plus and will be available for subscribers only.

“We were always looking at Hulu’s player with jealousy, with envy,” said Matt Stone at the press tour. “We want our show to always have the best possible presentation. I think in the back of our minds we were thinking about how we could partner with Hulu.”

In all fairness to the Stone and Parker, the show has been available for free for a very long time. It was only a matter of time before the two cashed in on the older episodes. I don’t blame them at all. And true fans of the show already own the series in some format. This just makes it available in a different way.

And guess what? Much like in the classic episode in season six of South Park, The Simpsons did this first.
