CM Punk returning to TV! Just not to the WWE

via WWE

CM Punk returning to TV is good news to his fans…even if it’s not in a wrestling ring.

CM Punk has been off TV since January (not counting random Blackhawks broadcasts). Punk has been out of the WWE spotlight, or any spotlight really, for almost half a calendar year and the CM Punk returning rumors have been swirling like a turd in potty ever since. With Punk’s new bride AJ Lee back in the WWE fold, CM Punk returning soon seems like an even stronger possibility.

Now news of CM Punk returning to TV to work the red carpet at the AP Music Awards in July. According to an official press release from Alt Press, CM Punk will be in the house (or outside the house) at the inaugural event to be held at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland, Ohio.

The Gibson Brands AP Music Awards, fueled by Monster Energy Drink, will open with a star-studded red carpet located just outside the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame, kicking off at 5:00 p.m. This year’s presenters, performers, honorees and nominees will line the carpet for two full hours, ultimately making their way to the highlighted AXS TV red carpet pre-show area, co-hosted by new addition CM Punk and Automatic Loveletter frontwoman/The Voice season two runner-up Juliet Simms.

Wait, what? You heard right! Professional wrestling champion CM Punk has been officially added as a red carpet host at the APMAs! As a life-long music fan, CM Punk will be making one of his first public appearances since he stepped away from his many years in the squared circle. CM Punk will be joining co-host Juliet Simms to interview celebrities for the AXS TV red carpet pre-show extravaganza!

Here’s what CM Punk had to say about his new role: “Well, I’m actually stoked to get out of the house and get gussied up for the first-ever Gibson Brands AP Music Awards, fueled by Monster Energy Drink. Red carpets and me don’t mix, so I figure it’ll be a perfectly hilarious night with friends and a live microphone—my favorite! Be there and be square!”

CM Punk returning to spotlight — WWE next?

Speculation of CM Punk returning to full time wrestling action snowballed when WWE announced that they were featuring CM Punk on WrestleMania Rewind this week. Punk has been “temporarily scrubbed” from most WWE products since his retirement so this is huge news.

This event feels right for CM Punk returning to the spotlight. His WWE return will come sooner (Summerslam) rather than later (Survivor Series or Wrestlemania) and gradually getting him into the spotlight feels like a smart move. Punk is without a contract come July 17th, so making himself even more mainstream, means even more money during contract negotiation time.
