But you’ll have to wait longer to see them. This is what we call in the business a “mixed bag.” I can’t think of any TV event that’s more anticipated than the upcoming Netflix-exclusive fourth season of Arrested Development. Fox’s cult comedy has been off the air since 2006, but sheer fan demand led to the cast getting back together and Netflix ponying up the bill for ten new episodes, which started filming in August. Leaks from the production have done nothing to slake our thirst, as just about every one of the show’s insane roster of guest stars and supporting characters is coming back – Bob Loblaw, Lucille Austero, even Ann Veal for God’s sake. Oh, and did we mention the new cast members like Terry Crews, some of the dudes from Workaholics and Mad Men‘s John Slattery?

So needless to say, when Deadline reported that production on the show was stopping, I got a little sad in my heart. Thankfully, when we read a little closer into the details it reveals that it’s been delayed for the absolute best possible reason: we’re getting more of it.

Show creator Mitch Hurwitz shot more good material than planned while making the first ten episodes, and the show’s freewheeling nature also inspired him to introduce some new subplots while filming was happening. When he sat down in the editing bay to put cuts together, he realized he had too much stuff for just ten episodes. So the production company went to Netflix and asked for a little more cash for more episodes and voila! We’re getting either twelve or fifteen instead of ten. Pick-up shooting resumes in January with the Netflix premiere of Arrested Development set for sometime in the spring.
