Scarlett Johansson’s Girl Group Just Dropped A New Single… Wait, What?

Scarlett Johansson, pop star?

That’s right. Scarlett Johansson is part of a singing girl group called The Singles. No, I am not joking. It’s Scarlett, Este Haim of Haim, and three other women, Holly Miranda, Kendra Morris and Julia Haltigan. And get this, they recently released a new single called “Candy.”

NO, I’m NOT joking. I’m serious. Scarlett Johansson has done this before too. She released a solo studio album called Anywhere I Lay My Head in 2008 and a Tom Waits cover album in 2006. She even talked about this new musical venture with Rolling Stone.

“The idea was to write super-pop dance music written and performed by girls,” says Johansson, citing the influence of Grimes, the Bangles and the Go-Go’s. “I wanted it to be like those bands: ultra-pop but also a little ironic, a little in on the joke.”

“Candy” has got some serious bubblegum lyrics too…

Boy, you got me craving sweets again.
Cause boy, my tooth be aching for your skin.
Boy, you’ve got me in the mood for love.
Cause boy, you’re my chocolate from above.
You’re the candy to my heart.
Ooh, candy to my heart.

Give it a listen and then keep an eye out for ScarJo and crew at the 2016 Grammys. Or not.
