To unabashed fanboys such as myself, this year's summer tour is extra special: Phish is celebrating its 30th anniversary, hitting up some of the band and fanbase's most beloved venues: Saratoga Performing Arts Center on Fourth of July weekend, Merriweather Post, Jones Beach, The Gorge, Dick's in Denver in Labor Day, etc.
To announce this summer's dates, drummer Jon Fishman appears in a spoof of Apocalypse Now's famous Hotel Room freakout scene.
Sure, the inside jokes only apply to Phish fans. But there's a bigger point here: As I argued last year, it's a shame more bands don't put this type of effort into making a viral tour announcement video. Usually it's just a bunch of concert clips mashed together with house music in Final Cut. Bleergh. Bands/managers/tour promoters really need to up their game in this department.
