Kanye West Went Full Kanye At The PanAm Games Closing Ceremony, Reinvents The Mic Drop, Storms Off Stage

At the closing ceremony of the PanAm Games in Toronto rapper Kanye West tried to reinvent the ‘mic drop’ when he threw his microphone high into the air and stormed off the stage because he wasn’t pleased with the acoustics of his performance. Some reports are that Kanye’s mic worked only for television viewers, other reports are that Kanye was simply going full Kanye.

He’s a megalomaniac and a self-proclaimed genius, you’d think someone with those qualifications might have ensured his stage setup was working properly before taking the stage, no? Also, when’s the last time he completed a public appearance without some sort of theatrical meltdown? I’m sure you Kanye Super Fans will tell me it was like yesterday at his private concert for the Prince of Monaco or the Official Executioner of the Saudi Royal Family, and that might be true because I don’t follow Kanye’s career super closely and I can’t prove you wrong. For those of us who are only casual fans of Kanye’s work it seems like we only see his name in the news when he’s screwing up, which actually seems like it happens about once a week these days. At this point I think it’s safe to say when things like this happen it’s just ‘Kanye being Kanye.’ It just seems like Kanye West is more likely to throw a temper tantrum on stage like a toddler than he is to actually finish a show.

Here’s another angle of Kanye’s mic toss, and if the microphone was in fact dead to everyone in the stadium then Kanye’s mic toss is actually pretty justifiable. Though this other angle actually makes it look like his microphone was in fact working….So what are we to believe?
