WWE Studios signs six-picture deal with Lionsgate

Lionsgate Films

WWE Studios and Lionsgate announced they’ve renewed their partnership with a six-picture deal.

The first film in the pack will be Vendettadirected by Jen and Sylvia Soska — twin sister filmmakers who The Guardian newspaper once called “the new faces of horror.”

The WWE and Lionsgate model of using wrestlers as stars of movies has proven to be pretty profitable — the original See No Evil made over $15 million dollars with a budget of just over $8 million.

The Soska Twins previously directed American Mary and See No Evil 2 starring Kane for WWE Studios and Lionsgate. Vendetta, written by Justin Shady, is the story of a hard-nosed detective who deliberately commits a crime to get sent to prison to seek vengeance on the criminal who murdered his wife.

“We’re thrilled to join forces with Michael and his WWE team on a series of modestly budgeted action films that extend our longstanding and successful partnership,” said Lionsgate Co-COO and Motion Picture Group President Steve Beeks. “We have a strong track record in this genre, and we’re delighted to team with the WWE juggernaut to deliver action-packed event films that will resonate with their global fan base and beyond.”

Now, let’s just keep praying for a slasher flick staring Hornswoggle.
