Except when there is crime. And then it totally sucks. So this is sort of an interesting concept for a movie. The Purge takes place in a utopian future where crime and deviant behavior has been totally eliminated from society. How does it work? Well, one day a year, everything is legal. It’s kind of like Devil’s Night in Detroit ramped up a billion notches. Ethan Hawke stars as a wealthy suburban dad whose kid wants him to murder somebody for the hell of it, and then things go all weird. Sure, it’s a goofy premise, but it could be fun. The Purge opens on May 31st.
