Alexa Vega

Rolling Stone

Spy Kids was a hell of a long time ago. There’s something sort of weird about a child actress growing up to be really hot. It makes you look back on your past time self a little shamefully. I mean, there are plenty of people who had countdown clocks running for Hermoine’s eighteenth birthday, but Alexa Vega just kind of snuck up on us.

You may remember Vega from her role as Carmen Cortez in the four Spy Kids movies directed by Robert Rodriguez. She was a mere lass of thirteen when she filmed the first one back in 2001, but when the flick did big business she became a franchise star. Since then, she’s featured in a number of other flicks, including the Paris Hilton-starring Repo: A Genetic Opera, but now she’s back with Rodriguez for Machete Kills.

The Spy Kids starlet is a ripe old 24 now, and she’s in the upcoming Machete sequel as “KillJoy,” a tough as nails woman who works as a bodyguard for a whorehouse. She’s also been doing interviews about “embracing her sexuality,” possibly the three greatest words in the English language.

Vega recently posted a picture on her Instagram account (which we’ve written about before) in costume from the flick (in association with Rolling Stone) and, well, it speaks for itself. But there’s something a little offputting about Robert Rodriguez, who was in some ways a father figure to Vega during her adolescence, putting her in an outfit that’s this… skimpy. I’m not complaining or anything, and she’s an adult who can make her own choices, but it’s a little weird.

Machete Kills opens in 2013.
