Glenn Danzig wouldn’t have been a gay Wolverine

The former Misfits frontman and kitty litter lover speaks out on X-Men and more. It’s hard for me to hate Glenn Danzig – those first two Misfits albums are some of the best dumb records ever made, and even his early solo stuff has some appeal. But the thick-necked scion of Lodi, New Jersey has such a ridiculously inflated sense of self-importance that when he does an interview the chuckles just come out of me.

In a recent talk with LA Weekly, Glenn (preparing for his upcoming Danzig Legacy tour) opened up on some of the many notable moments in his career, including getting punched in the face by North Side Kings singer Danny Marianinho, but what really got my attention was the bit about Bryan Singer’s X-Men.

Apparently, early on in the film’s development Danzig was attached to play Wolverine, the squatty Canadian with the bones of metal. When asked how he would have approached the role differently than Hugh Jackman, who eventually got the part, Glenn responded:

It wouldn’t have been as gay. Actually, he wasn’t the first choice. They hired Dougray Scott. He had a falling out with the director, and then they hired Hugh Jackman. I’m glad I didn’t do it. It was terrible.

Yes, because I’m sure that you would have done a much better job, you trained actor you. Danzig also says that he wants to get into directing in the future. Well, if Rob Zombie can do it, anyone can.
