The 10 Best Stunt Driving Moments in Movie History

If there’s one thing that all bros enjoy, it’s a high-speed chase or action-packed driving scene that brings us to the edge of our seats.

Since we don’t get the chance to drop the clutch and go all out on the highway too often—OK, we do it when no one’s looking, though—admiring the stunts that some drivers can do behind the wheel is dope.

With the The Transporter Refueled set to release this Friday, September 4, the newest rendition of a great action flick is sure to give us some amazing stunts, too. For now, though, admire these 10 top driving moments in cinema history to get your fill.

10. The Man with the Golden Gun

Sure, it’s a little bit corny with the slide-whistle that accompanies the leap, but there’s no denying that a car spinning 360 degrees is about as unbelievable a scene that your eyes will ever see.

Filmed back in 1974 with nothing more than, what appears to be, a Mouse Trap-like contraption of two bridges, this James Bond stunt proved to be both daring and ahead of its time.

Now if only the newer Bond flicks would have more driving adventures like this!

9. Bad Boys II

Hands-down, one of the craziest actions movies ever made was Bad Boys II, where Miami cops Mike Lowrey and Marcus Burnett are famous for their high-intensity chases and arrests.

But they all pale in comparison to the pursuit of some bad guys on a highway in Miami.

While getting cars flung at them doing about 100 behind the wheel of a Porsche, Lowrey avoids all the obstacles and leaves viewers in amazement as the scene unfolds.

Dangerous and extreme with plenty of cleaning up to do, Bad Boys II delivers in a big way with this scene.

8. Mad Max

Known for its incredible car chases throughout the entire flick, the original Mad Max movie—which helped lead to actor Mel Gibson’s breakthrough—had one of the best ones ever during its closing scene.

Seriously, when someone is as vengeful as Max Rockatansky is in this scene, you better believe he’ll do anything in his power to hunt down the person who whacked his family.

This thing still makes us sweat while watching it.

7. The Blues Brothers

It may be a comedy, but that doesn’t discount the stunt driving scene that occurred in The Blues Brothers, as the two soulful bros ride through the streets of Chicago to avoid The Windy City’s finest.

While the film itself consisted of a bunch of cameos from some of the biggest names in musical history—with Aretha Franklin and Ray Charles among them—the car chase is still one of the most memorable of all, with the boys in blue leading to one of the funniest car pileup’s in movie history.

6. Speed

Maybe we’re just suckers, but the bus jump scene from the movie Speed still remains to be one of our all-time favorites.

Told that a bomb on the bus would explode should the speed drop below 50 miles per hour, L.A. office Jack Traven is put in ridiculous predicaments to try and protect the passengers from becoming nothing more than ashes.

With Sandra Bullock’s character, Annie, behind the wheel, Jack plots a high-stress plan for the 12 ton bus to leap over a gap in the highway, no doubt dropping your heart into your stomach while watching it unfold.

5. The Italian Job

Looking back on the movie The Italian Job, it almost feels as if the entire thing was a chase ’em down car, boat, helicopter or motorcycle race, doesn’t it?

That’s definitely not a bad thing, either.

Going down stairs, through tunnels and popping out of sewer pipes in their Mini Coopers, these thieves not only pulled off one of the great cinematic heists seen on the big screen, but they were able to escape thanks to some expert weight distribution during the chase scene, too.

Whether you knew the outcome or not, the expert driving is what makes this scene so damn impressive.

4. The Fast and the Furious

There’s a reason why they’re on schedule to make eight of these movies—with The Fast 8 rumored to be releasing in a couple of years—and it sure as hell isn’t just for the acting.

While the entire The Fast and the Furious catalog consists of ridiculous races, chases and stunts, the scene that had Vin Diesel’s character, Dominic Toretto, go head-to-head with Paul Walker’s, Brian O’Conner, in the original flick is the best of the bunch.

Beating a speeding train and ending in epic proportions, this is the race that led to millions of moviegoers coming back for more.

3. The Transporter

When you freak out the thieves who are trying to steal your car, you know that things are pretty legit.

That’s what happened here in the first Transporter movie, as Frank Martin goes on a high-speed chase that ends with some masked men scared out of their wits in while riding shotgun and in the backseat, as Martin turns the tables on them.

2. The Bourne Identity

If there’s one thing that the movie The Bourne Identity proved, it was that Jason Bourne was one hell of an escape artist.

And the most popular scene in which he perfectly executes a Harry Houdini-like trick is during the Paris car chase, where Bourne takes his Mini Cooper around the European city to avoid his pursuers.

This chase embodies what a car scene should look like.

1. The Dark Knight

It just doesn’t get much better than this.

As Batman and Joker weave in the bowels of the Gotham, the two engaged in a breathtaking chase that left bros wondering, “wait, how the hell did they flip a semi truck?”

Trying to track down his foe while riding his Batpod, the superhero is able to catch the crazy ass villain to cause one of the most iconic scenes from the iconic movie.

Don’t try this at home, kids.
