Video: SNL Nails the Penn State Scandal

At least from my point of view, it was hard to not be obsessed with the 24/7 news coverage out of Happy Valley last week. It seemed like every hour the Penn State sex scandal snowballed into a bigger and bigger monster, completely with weird riots and press conferences given through the windows of Joe Paterno's house and a seemingly endless stream of communication through "official statements." It was a maddening affair to watch unfold, given the sickening seriousness of Sandusky's alleged abuse and the university's foolish cover-up. Trust me, it's emotionally exhausting to watch your own alma mater implode itself in the public's eye.

Given the circ*mstances, SNL's Weekend Update totally went there, addressed the 10,000 pound gorilla in the room, and managed to find a way to make light of a very serious scenario. And the show's writers approached it in a way that made us laugh without feeling uncomfortable at what we were laughing at, too. Jason Sudeikis nails it as the Devil, making the all-too-easy comparison with Penn State and the Catholic Church. "I’m the Prince of Darkness, not a monster.”

While we're at it, the guys at The School Philly put together this video recapping everything that went down over this past week at PSU. Just in case you need a little refresher.
