Rumors of a ‘Top Gun 2’ sequel have been tossed around ever since the original Top Gun hit theaters back in 1986, and those rumors just hit a fever pitch this morning when Val Kilmer dropped a massive announcement on Facebook regarding the potential movie. Iceman is a go, I repeat, Iceman’s a GO.

“It’s starring Gene Hackman…”
“Yes” “The director is Francis Coppola…” “Yes!” They aren’t involved in this production.
These are examples of what an actor says yes to- like
Jerry Bruckheimer and Tom Cruise!!! “Yes.” We will all miss Tony Scott one of the kindest gentlemen I’ve ever met in the film biz, but let’s fire up some fighter jets again!!! This is a long way off so calm down. This has been talked about for a long long time and being offered a role is very different from doing a role. I jumped the gun with my post. Tom Cruise, Jerry Bruckheimer, and Val Kilmer will take to the skies for a Top Gun 2 sequel to Top Gun, one of the best moves of the 1980s and an all time classic…and just like that my mind is at peace. As of now there is an IMDB page for ‘Top Gun 2’ but there’s no plot or any names attached to the page other than Tom Cruise as ‘Maverick’.
Since the first Top Gun was released nearly three decades ago Tom Cruise has proven to be one of the most insane actors on all of Hollywood, pledging his undying affection to the great spaghetti flying monster or chuthulu or something like that. On the other hand we have Val Kilmer, who has progressively packed on 10 pounds ever 5 years since Top Gun hit theaters. But all of those pounds can be shed in no time when he’s offered millions of dollars to play Iceman once more.

As noted over on BusinessInsider, the sequel was confirmed to be in the works this past Summer but details of the actors is still rather murky, so this is without a doubt the biggest casting news yet.
