T-Pain Singing Without Using Autotune Is Actually Really Damn Impressive

If there’s one thing T-Pain is known for above all it’s autotune. He’s synonymous with the musical equivalent of Viagra. Due to that I think the majority of us have always assumed that he requires autotune to sound good, and we couldn’t have been more wrong.

Here we see T-Pain singing three songs on NPR without the use of any autotune, and I’ll be damned if he doesn’t sound amazing. The set list is as follows: “Buy U A Drank (Shawty Snappin’)”, “Up Down (Do This All Day)”, “Drankin’ Patna”.

He’s obviously not comfortable in this setting as he keeps cracking jokes about it..”Weird as hell!” So maybe the autotune’s more of a confidence issue? I have no idea, but I’m flabbergasted. For now I’ll assume that a decade ago his voice sucked, and he’s spent 10 years and all his riches on voice coaching to prove us all wrong.

A T-Pain post wouldn’t be complete without this video though, would it?
