On last night's Colbert Report, Stephen Colbert came back to work from taking week off after the sudden passing of his mother, Lorna Colbert. She was 92. Before starting the show he opened with a touching tribute, fighting back tears the entire time. The fact that most of us knew nothing of this women prior to last night's show, mattered not to him. It was just a Bro, stripped of his TV persona, paying honest, heartfelt respects to his mother. The thing is, he didn't have to do it -- people wouldn't have faulted him for not mentioning it at all, in fact, some assholes will probably chide him for doing so -- but you get the sense that if he did nothing, if he just started the show without mention of her passing, he would have hated himself for it. And that's commendable.
