After South Carolina's Jim DeMint announced last week that he was leaving his Senate seat to head the conservative think tank the Heritage Foundation, state native Stephen Colbert floated his name as a possible replacement. Of course, because comedy is going to consume our lives pretty soon and nothing is serious, he's voters' preferred candidate in the state. Via the Washington Post: "Colbert tops the list of replacements with 20 percent of respondents in the state saying they want the comic-turned-faux conservative pundit to represent them in the Senate."
Colbert addressed the strange situation last night, making a plea for voters to try to convince Governor Nikki Haley to appoint Colbert to fill in DeMint's seat. Our take: Appoint him! You'll at least give us material to cover for years, maybe.
