It's been several presidencies since South Park transformed from an exercise in creative use of the word "fuck" to the hilarious, biting social commentary that it is today. But for the—wow—17th season premiere, the show promises to amp up its already amazing timeliness, name-dropping Trayvon Martin, Edward Snowden, Syria, and Miley Cyrus in the first official teaser, then promising to "go there." The words "too soon"... Matt and Trey have never given a shit about.
One note about the perhaps-inevitable Zimmerman/Trayvon episode: The last time the show took on a major Florida court case, the result was "Best Friends Forever," the Emmy-winning take on Terri Schiavo. If a Travyon episode touches anything near those heights, then the show can wind up providing the most unique, clear-headed take on the madness that came from Sanford.
September 25 is the premiere date.
