‘SNL’ Reenacts Democratic Debate With The Hilarious Larry David As A Very ‘Seinfeld’-esque Bernie Sanders

During last week’s Democratic debate viewers noticed a eerie similarity between the voices of Sen. Bernie Sanders and Larry David’s impression of George Steinbrenner from the TV show Seinfeld. Saturday Night Live acted quickly to snag David to play Sanders as well as frequent SNL contributor Alec Baldwin to portray feisty candidate Jim Webb on the sketch show’s parody of CNN’s Democratic debate.

SNL’s cold open also featured Kate McKinnon as Secretary Hillary Clinton, Jon Rudnitsky played debate host Anderson Cooper, Kyle Mooney portrayed Lincoln Chafee and Taran Killam as Martin O’Malley.

David transformed the self-described democratic socialist into a very Seinfeld-esque character that questions simple everyday topics. David screams, “Hey, what’s the deal with emails anyway?” David said. “I forgot my password the other day, so they say ‘we’ll email you a new one.’ But I can’t get into my email to get the password!”

In real life Sanders has been an outspoken opponent of megabanks, and Larry David’s Bernie Sanders is also against big banks, specifically their pens. “Why do they chain all their pens to the desk?” David said. “Who’s trying to steal a pen from a bank? Makes no sense.”

Later the Curb Your Enthusiasm star pondered, “Know what I don’t understand America? These podiums! What are you supposed to do with your elbows? Put them on top? They’re too short.”

The skit mocked Clinton’s ever-changing McKinnon’s Clinton angrily declares, “I mean in 2008, of course I lost because I was running against a cool black guy, but this year I thought I got to be the cool black guy.”

Clinton dismissed Sanders, “I get it, he’s cool. He’s the song of the summer, he’s ‘Trap Queen’ by Fetty Wap. But I’m the ‘Birthday Song’ guys, and you’re going to be singing me til the day you die.”

After supporting Clinton in her email scandal, David’s Sanders announced, “Coming next November I will be… Hillary Clinton’s Vice President!”
