This is a rumor. But nearly everything that has been "reported" so far about Episode VII—save the J.J. Abrams news—is a rumor, so screw it: According to Latino Review ("The Latin Website on Movies and Pop Culture"), Disney is considering none other than Ryan Gosling and Zac Efron for roles in the next chapter of Star Wars. Gosling is up for the part of Luke Skywalker's kid. Efron, no one knows.
But that's not all! Says Latino Review, "Leonardo DiCaprio was up for a role in Star Wars but passed. He passed because he wants to do a project that is being developed and that project is … Robotech." Hmm. Save his taste in models, DiCaprio has never really been one for conventional choices—just look at his track record after Titanic, when he could have had any role in the world that he wanted. But to turn down a stake in what undoubtedly will be the biggest movie of the year? For an adaptation of this? I dunno.
As for Gosling and Efron: Neither could wind up in the finished product. We'll know more after Disney's D23 Expo, when Star Wars announcements are expected. But how can you at least be excited for Goose after Drive and The Place Beyond the Pines? The guy would be perfect. He's basically stopped speaking while acting, and he's still great.
