Rocky Balboa Returns In First Trailer For ‘Creed,’ Looks Dramatic, Awesome And Now I Want To Be A Boxer

Nearly 40 years ago, an upstart boxer from Philly, Rocky Balboa, defeated World Champion Apollo Creed on New Years Eve (Whoops, spoiler alert). Now in the movie Creed, Rocky is passing the gloves on to Adonis Creed, Apollo’s son that he never got to know.

Sylvester Stallone is of course back as Rocky. Adonis is played by Michael B. Jordan (Johnny Storm in upcoming Fantastic Four 2 and Vince Howard from Friday Night Lights), who rocks patriotic boxing trunks just like his pops did. However he runs around Philadelphia in a black beanie and grey sweats, just like Rocky did.

Rocky isn’t fighting any more, but he hopes to be a great mentor like Mickey Goldmill was for him. Maybe even get Adonis a title fight.

Creed is directed by 29-year-old Ryan Coogler, who wrote and directed Fruitvale Station, which also starred Jordan and won awards at Sundance Film Festival and Cannes Film Festival.

Even though it is titled “Creed,” this is technically “Rocky VII.” Creed is the first film in the Rocky franchise since 2006’s Rocky Balboa.

Creed hits theaters on November 25, exactly 39 years and four days after Rocky premiered.
