The first "Kick-Ass" was a weirdly cool superhero flick made awesome by Nicolas Cage, and his brilliant turn as Big Daddy. This isn't an ironic "Oh Nic Cage is the man" statement that you see whenever a buddy tries to defend, like, "The Wicker Man." Cage ruled in "Kick-Ass."
Unfortunately (SPOILER ALERT) Big Daddy did not make it through "Kick Ass." And the way he went out doesn't exactly set up for a dramatic return from the "dead." So this sequel is going in without its best character.
In "Kick-Ass 2's" favor, though? Jim Carrey.
That's Jim Carrey as the jacked character Colonel Stars and Stripes. I did not recognize him. I thought he was Mickey Rourke for a second. But, most importantly, he's hilarious. If anyone can carry a strange superhero flick like this, which requires one scene-chewing character, it's Carrey. (Sorry, McLovin', you're not cutting it.)
"Kick-Ass 2" comes out August 16.
