Mark Wahlberg Jokingly Asked For Pope Francis’ Forgiveness For Starring In ‘Ted’

Over the weekend, Mark Wahlberg had the honor of emceeing the World Meeting Of Families event that brought Pope Francis to the Benjamin Franklin Parkway in Philadelphia for the first time. Always a crowd favorite, Mark Mark took the opportunity to both facilitate the aims of the ceremony on Saturday night, and provide some comedic value for his Holiness.

Not only did Wahlberg subtly drop a “Go Eagles!” to the roaring applause from the crowd when introducing Herb Lusk, but he also took a second to ask the pope to forgive him for starring in Ted…which is, as we all know, not necessarily the most harmonizing film when it comes to the Catholic church’s views.

“Holy Father, please forgive me,” Wahlberg said. “I’ve always hoped that the good Lord has a sense of humor when it comes and pertains to many of the movies that I’ve made.”

In Francis’ church, it seems acceptance is the name of the game. So, it’s likely that Wahlberg did, in fact, receive the papa’s blessing. That is, on the condition that the Vatican receives an early screening of Ted 3, of course.
