Katy Perry Made Over 5,000x More Than The Average American Will This Year, Has More Money Than Scrooge McDuck

Forbes has just released their annual report of the highest-paid women in music and contrary to previous reports that Taylor Swift is making $1 million per day it’s actually Katy Perry who sits at #1 on the list. The recent stories about Taylor bringing in seven figures a day were floated around by Business Insider and MSN, but this is Forbes we’re talking about, a publication with a long and trusted history of publishing financial reports, so I think it’s safe to say that these numbers (and not the previous reports) are accurate.

As for how much money Katy Perry’s making in 2015 to sit atop the list of ‘Highest Paid Women In Music‘, well, she’s bringing in roughly five thousand times the median wage of workers in the United States. The median wage is $26,695 (with 66% of American workers earning less than $41,212 per year), and Katy Perry is earning a cool $135 MILLION THIS YEAR. That’s like 135 more millions than I’ll ever earn in one year of working in my entire life time (unless I hit the Powerball or Mega Millions). Here’s how the rest of the top 10 shakes out:

1.) Katy Perry, $135 milloin

2.) Taylor Swift, $80 million

3.) Stevie Nicks (Fleetwood Mac), $59.5 million

4.) Lady Gaga, $59 million

5.) Beyoncé, $54.5 million

6.) Britney Spears, $31 million

7.) Jennifer Lopez, $28.5 million

8.) Miranda Lambert, $28.5 million

9.) Mariah Carey, $27 million

10.) Rihanna, $26 million

I can’t help but wonder why there’s never any changing of the guard among the women in music. Three of the ladies on this list are over 40-years-old, the rest of them have been in the business for over a decade. There’s no new blood. It’s like these ladies got their hands on some $$$$$ and decided they wouldn’t let any new artists penetrate their upper echelon.
