‘John Wick 2’ Begins Filming This Fall, And Keanu Reeves Is Back To Get More Bloody Revenge

We told you back in May that John Wick 2 was coming and now we have a better idea of the timeline of when you can see your favorite hitmn back in action.

The production company Thunder Road Films announced in a press release that production for John Wick 2 will begin this fall.

“Thunder Road’s upcoming releases include Sicario directed by Denis Villeneuve starring Benicio Del Toro, Emily Blunt, and Josh Brolin, and the tent pole film Gods of Egypt for Summit/Lionsgate directed by Alex Proyas. Also upcoming is a sequel to the hit actioner John Wick starring Keanu Reeves which begins shooting this Fall.”

The sequel to 2014’s critically-acclaimed revenge thriller welcomes back Keanu Reeves as hitman John Wick, writers and directors David Leitch and Chad Stahelski are set to return, along with their co-writer Derek Kolstad and producer Basil Iwanyck. Jason Constantine and Eda Kowan will oversee the project on behalf of Lionsgate.

It is not immediately known if the original cast of Adrianne Palicki, Willem Dafoe, Bridget Moynahan, Jason Isaacs, Alfie Allen, Lance Reddick, Kevin Nash and Dean Winters will return for John Wick 2.

So far the only hint on the plot is this, “In the follow up to last year’s adrenaline-fueled revenge and redemption thriller legendary hit man John Wick is back.” But we can probably guess the plot, lots of guns, hot bullets, huge body counts and sweet, exacting revenge.

The original action flick only had a budget of $20 million, but quickly became a cult classic and reeled in $78.7 million worldwide. Critics and viewers alike welcomed the bloodfest and rewarded the film with a 85% “Fresh” rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

A few months ago, Stahelski commented about the highly anticipated sequel:

“We have ideas for days and without blinking twice we know we can outdo the action from the original. It’s the matter of story and how much you like the character. That’s always the most important. If there’s great action but you have a character that no-one likes and doesn’t have charisma you’re not going to watch it. Look at any great action star, whether it’s Harrison Ford or Liam Neeson or Robert Downey Jr., pick a name, you love the guy first. Good action, bad action, you just love them in action. So we want to make sure we have a story and a character that everybody loves and then we’ll dress it with action that we promise will be awesome.”

Lionsgate’s President of Acquisitions and Co-Productions, Jason Constantine, had this to say:

“With such tremendous fan and critical support for John Wick, we knew that there was still so much more of this story to tell. We are thrilled that Keanu, David and Chad have reteamed with us and promise to bring audiences even more excitement the second time around.”

While we don’t have an exact release date for John Wick 2, Lionsgate International is said that it will be selling the picture internationally at the upcoming Cannes Film Market, which is in May.

CAN. NOT. WAIT.
