Jerry Seinfeld’s So Rich He Thinks At A $20B Valuation YouTube Is Still Just A ‘Garbage Can’

Jerry Seinfeld isn’t quite a billionaire yet, but he’s close. With an estimated net worth of $820 million, Jerry Seinfeld is the wealthiest living comedian, with his coffers constantly swelling from ‘Seinfeld’ residuals. Being both a celebrity and one of the wealthiest men in the world has caused Jerry Seinfeld to lost touch with reality, it’s also allowed him to launch one of the shittiest web series in existence.

The series I’m referring to above is of course ‘Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee’, a web series hosted on Crackle, a web based distributor of television and movie entertainment from Sony Pictures. Some people, I’m not sure which people, but some people must like ‘Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee’ because the web series continues to exist. As Crackle’s main competitor is YouTube, the web video behemoth owned by Google and valued at somewhere between $26 and $40 BILLION (Crackle is valued at a paltry $200 million).

Anyways, at ‘Crackle’s Upfront in NY’ that kicked off here in NYC yesterday Jerry Seinfeld opened his out-of-touch mouth and tried to compared YouTube to a ‘Garbage Can’. Because to Jerry Seinfeld the #3 most popular website in the entire world is nothing more than a blip on his radar used for shaky camera shots, and shoddy upstart comedians not worth the time of day!

The Hollywood Reporter has the story:

Jerry Seinfeld doesn’t want to see your cat videos. Or those shakey-camera skits you made in the backyard. The comedy legend kicked off Crackle’s Upfront in NYC on Tuesday by articulating his decision to bolt traditional TV for the web, and took a pointed jab at user-generated content producers and the “garbage can” that hosts them.

“The less the better,” Seinfeld said when asked about less-professional content. “I don’t want to see this crap. We have a giant garbage can called YouTube for user-generated content. We’re trying to generate a little higher level. I think showbusiness is for talent, that’s who should be in it. But let’s keep it in its hierarchy. And I like being at the top of the pyramid.”

“When you get to a certain point in the business, what a man is looking for in a network is the same as in his underwear. A little bit of support and a little bit of freedom,” he said according to a transcript via Tubefilter. “That’s exactly what Crackle offered… There’s nothing different about what we’re doing than what anyone else is doing on any media anywhere. TV networks are worried that you’ll figure out TV is over, and there’s nothing special about it.”

Aaaahhhhhhh, so rich ass Jerry isn’t interested with competing with comedians who are talented. He just wants to be handed a fast lane to the top, because he’s paid his dues and he’s now living life on residuals!

From what I read above Jerry Seinfeld seems like the kind of guy who would’ve stood side-by-side with Comcast trying to fight for ‘Internet Fast Lanes’. Like the kind of guy who would’ve been happy to see Comcast try and put any site out of business that stood in the way of its own holdings.

This man, Jerry Seinfeld, he has the audacity to throw shade at YouTube…
