If there’s one thing Shawn Carter is passionate about, it’s rap. If there’s another thing Shawn Carter is passionate about, it’s punctuation. After all, he’s not a businessman – he’s a business, man. The noted problem-haver made a pretty significant change last night as he announced he’s dropping the hyphen in his former stage name Jay-Z.
Breaking: Jay Z has dropped the hyphen from his name, according to his label. I am not kidding. (Wish I was.) Copy editors: take note.— Joe Levy (@RealJoeLevy) July 18, 2013
Hyphens are so passé. They’re also decidedly soft, so this move will play well “on the streets.”
One wonders if Jay Z realizes all his fans will want new Jay Z merchandise to replace the outdated Jay-Z merchandise. That could make him more money. Not that something like that would ever come into play or anything.
