‘Hugo,’ ‘Artist’ Lead Oscar Nominations; Clooney and Pitt Vie for Best Actor

By / 01.24.12

George Clooney (“The Descendants”) and Brad Pitt (“Moneyball”) will battle it out with Jean Dujardin (“The Artist”), Gary Oldman (“Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy”), and Demián Bichir (“A Better Life”) for the leading man prize. Elsewhere, Jonah Hill got a Best Supporting Actor nod for “Moneyball” (though Albert Brooks was shut out for “Drive”), Melissa McCarthy got a supporting actress nomination for “Bridesmaids,” and Pixar was shut out of “Best Animated Film” for the first time ever, since “Cars 2″ disappointed everyone. My biggest disappointment, besides “Extremely Loud” getting the nomination, is that young beauty Shailene Woodley didn't get a supporting actress nod for “The Descendants.” She's got plenty of years to get Oscar attention, I suppose.
