Say what you will about the Simon Pegg, Edgar Wright, and Nick Frost trio of Brit-coms—The World's End is the third in a series that also features Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz—but you can't, CAN'T, say they don't understand the importance of a quality pint. Arguably the funniest running joke in Shaun of the Dead was Shaun's continuous refusal to recognize the realities of a zombie apocalypse and not go to the Winchester and drink a pint while "waiting for it to all blow over." Hot Fuzz featured that hilarious bonding scene between Angel and Butterman at a pub, in which the two admitted they got in the police game because of Bad Boys II and Point Break.
And now The World's End looks to keep up the tradition. It's a movie with drinking at the premise—following a group of friends reattempting an "epic" 12-pub crawl that ends at the bar The World's End, and the film delves into an alien invasion that hits the mates while they try to complete their journey. I'm getting a strong connection with that running Shaun of the Dead joke, which isn't a bad thing.
This is one of my most anticipated comedies of the summer. It will be released in the UK on July 19th and in the US on August 23rd.
