Yesterday settled it: In at least one sense, video games are bigger than movies. On Tuesday—just, Tuesday—Grand Theft Auto V made $800 million, recouping its monstrous budget by half a billion. Only two films all year, Despicable Me 2 and Iron Man 3, have grossed more money during their entire run. Meaning, GTA is arguably more important to popular culture than even Tony Stark.
The $800 million beats out the previous one-day record, set by Call of Duty II: Black Ops last November, by $300 million.
In other GTA news, this video just made me laugh for five solid minutes.
