Michael Bay is veering into uncharted waters. Not aesthetically, since his new Starz show Black Pirates still has scantily clad women and explosions galore, but more literally -- it's a period show about swashbuckling pirates on the high seas. The main character is Captain Flint, the jolly rodger from the classic Robert Louis Stevenson adventure novel, Treasure Island. It takes place 20 years before Treasure Island in the pirate hideaway of New Providence, which is described as “the most notorious criminal haven of its day — a debauched paradise teeming with pirates, prostitutes, thieves and fortune seekers, a place defined by both its enlightened ideals and stunning brutality.”
It debuts in January and a second season has already been ordered. Can't freakin' wait.
