On Saturday night, an overzealous fan barged onstage during the Earl Sweatshirt concert in Sydney, Australia and violently approached the rapper from behind and wrapped his hands around his neck. Earl did not take kindly to the gesture and promptly punched him, knocking him to the ground. The attacker was quickly thrown off the platform at the Max Watt’s venue by security.
A representative for Earl told Pitchfork, “That fan is not hugging him. He approached from behind and his arms are around Earl’s face and neck,” while another rep adds that “Earl was attacked as far as any artist performing onstage would be concerned that is ambushed from behind, not hugged.”
The interaction during the “Ready to Leave Now Tour” stop definitely did not seem to be friendly.
He addressed the situation on his Twitter:

Mental Note: Don’t jump on stage and put your and around Earl Sweatshirt during a concert unless you want to get your ass handed to you.
