We just gained a brand new respect for Chelsea Handler. Back in March it was announced that Handler would be leaving her E! network show Chelsea Lately when her contract ran out. There was some speculation she might be a candidate for Letterman’s spot at The Late Show and, now that we know it’s in Stephen Colbert’s hands, maybe she’ll be a shoe-in for Craig Ferguson’s spot at 12:30. All along, there were grumblings that she didn’t like the network her show appeared on. In an interview with The Daily Mail, she points a finger directly at Justin Bieber, the Kardashians, and the sleazy celeb industrial complex manufactured around them:
To be quite honest I don’t really care about Justin Bieber and I don’t want to talk about him anymore. In order to make that happen I had to just stop doing my show. Straight away.
You end up getting so into the mix that it changes the topics of the day. You can sit around and complain about all that s**t and the Kardashians all day but if you’re participating in it then what can you do? It really didn’t feel great doing the show and the only way to sort things out was to extricate myself from the entire situation.
I want to talk to people who have changed the course of the world. Inventors, invaders and people who have been doing exciting stuff.
If Leonardo DiCapro’s recent actions as of late and Handler’s words are any indication, it seems that Hollywood has started to revolt on Justin Bieber and The Kardashians. True talent doesn’t want to be associated with mere hanger-on troll celebrities like Biebs and Kim K. So she gave E! and all it stands for the middle finger and is moving on.
This is a glorious moment. Let’s hope the trend continues.
