Texas homeboy Scott Kennedy died unexpectedly on Thursday. The southwestern-based comic was best known for his unprecedented committment to the men and women of the armed forces (he made more than 50 trips to Iraq and Afghanistan), his upfront, yet likeable style, and the intriguing way that he approaches his sexuality--Kennedy was out of the closet, which he viewed as a funny juxtaposition to his redneck, stereotypically homobophobic appearance. Despite his sexual orientation, Kennedy was also quite masculine--more than many a straight man, in fact.
