‘Better Call Saul’ Extended Trailer Shows Balance Of Comedy And Crime Drama That Made ‘Breaking Bad’ Great

While we will still miss Breaking Bad, I have to admit that the prequel, Better Call Saul really looks to have some promise. Many pessimists thought Better Call Saul was just a money-grabbing throwaway series that capitalizes on Breaking Bad‘s fame, however the teaser trailers have shown that the upcoming AMC drama has potential.

Bob Odenkirk returns as “two-bit, bus-bench attorney” Saul Goodman, who is willing to take on any client for a payday. Fan favorite Mike Ehrmantraut, played by Jonathan Banks, is also back, but as a parking garage attendant, which could be a front for something much darker.

AMC released this two-minute extended trailer to get audiences excited and it worked for me. It appears the show will have the same delicate balance of comedy, drama and violent criminal behavior that made Breaking Bad so great.

Breaking Bad mastermind Vince Gilligan said that the spinoff series would center around Saul:

“It will be Saul Goodman’s world, it won’t be Walter White’s, and it will have a different feel, even though there will be some overlap on the Venn diagram that exists between Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul. But it will have to succeed on its own terms as its own show. If it doesn’t, it won’t be satisfying, and satisfaction is the key word. We want to satisfy.”

Better Call Saul debuts on AMC with a two-night series premiere on Sun., Feb 8 at 10/9c and Mon., Feb 9 at 10/9c.
