Many media outlets—ahem—took a break this weekend from non-stop, round-the-clock reportage on the childhood-ruining antics of Amanda Bynes. For good reason: At a certain point, the whole situation has gotten kind of sad. Bynes clearly needs help, she's mentally delusional, and she's probably on a drug stronger than weed. Her behavior is starting to remind me of what Dave Chappelle said about the nature of celebrity after coming back from Africa. "Why is Dave Chappelle going to Africa? Why does Mariah Carey make a hundred-million dollar deal and take her clothes off on TRL? A weak person can not get here and talk to you. Ain’t no weak people talking to you. So what is happening in Hollywood? Nobody knows! The worst thing to call somebody is crazy. It’s dismissive. I don’t understand this person, so they’re crazy. That’s bullshit. These people are not crazy, they’re strong people. Maybe the environment is a little sick.” Maybe Bynes is also cracking under the stress of the spotlight? She's been there for around 15 years now. (And she's only 27.)
But then, Bynes Tweeted at Rihanna this weekend. And it became a little harder to defend her behavior.
Bynes quickly deleted the incriminating Tweets. Rihanna got wind of what Bynes said, though, and gave this pretty great follow-up: "Ya see what happens when they cancel Intervention?"
And now, we all wait for this story to probably continue to get worse.
