Why Did the University of Miami Send Out this Racist Emergency Text Message Message?

By / 12.05.12

The University of Miami sent us out an emergency text message that a black man was on campus. Then they called me and told me to lock my doors, stay away from windows and not to open the door for anyone. No crime was stated and it sounded pretty hilariously racist. Turns out it was an armed shooter. Was still pretty funny.

Thankfully, we have context in the Facebook exchange. Couldn't The U have included the detail about it being an armed shooter? Because otherwise it looks like you just sent thousands of people a text message describing a black male on campus for absolutely no reason. Thankfully, the Facebook thread tells gives us the actual situation. Hopefully everyone is safe.

If you have any more details, throw 'em in the comments.
