Three U Of M Students Charged With Wrecking That Ski Resort But There Are More Charges Coming

Remember the rampage through the ski resort? Sounds like a Muhammed Ali fight. It wasn’t, it was a bunch of Sigma Alpha Mu frat bros going apeshit and destroying a ski resort in January.

The cops have finally started dishing out punishment and it’s a year of polishing ski lifts for..no? It’s not? It’s worse?

Otsego County Prosecutor Michael Rola issued 30-day misdemeanor charges against sophomores Joshua Kaplan and Zachary Levin, both 19, alleging the pair allowed minors in their supervision to drink alcohol. A third student, who was not identified Tuesday because he has not been arraigned, was charged with malicious destruction of property over $1000. His attorney, Mark Kriger, did not return phone calls.

A big sigh of relief for everyone else involved, huh? No? They ain’t done?

“When persons commit crimes in large groups, and it’s not caught on tape, it can require extensive additional investigation,” he said, adding that he anticipates charging more students soon.

Allegedly, there were more than 120 fraternity members involved in the incident that caused almost $400K worth of damage. The national Sigma Alpha Mu organization permanently suspended the Michigan chapter for the damage and because members “were not fully cooperating in the investigation.”

Resort spokeswoman Susan Wilcox-Olson said the resort was pleased with the warrants.
