Penn State Students Are Trying to Crowdfund a Trip to the Moon

The jokes kind of write themselves: A team of 80 students who can't even remember what the fuck happened last weekend is going to build a moon rover? But it could actually happen. The bulk of the kids are focused on building engines, and they're working tandem with accomplished scientists and engineers at one of the country's best research universities. From the Daily Dot:

“I say ‘why not?’” Joe Volansky, a Penn State grad student and the project’s communications director told the Dot.

“To be a naysayer is selling a lot of people short. I don’t think I’m alone in saying this is entirely possible for a university to do.”

As of this morning, Penn State had raised $19,600 of its $406,536 goal. (Fun fact: 406,536 represents the number of kilometers between the earth and the moon.) If you donate more than $100, your name will be etched onto the spacecraft hardware. Beats a t-shirt.
