Two New Yorkers Take a Cab Cross-Country to Los Angeles for $5,000

There's an awesome story making the rounds today about two guys who successfully completed a cross country trip from New York City to Los Angeles in yellow NYC Taxi Cab. The idea was the brainchild of John Belitsky, a NYC-based I-banker who's father was a taxi driver. He told CNN the six day, spur-of-the-moment journey was "motivated by a desire to pay tribute to his father," who doubted he could pull a stunt like this off. Like any good road dog, Belitsky brought his friend Dan Wuebben along for ride. After propositioning a few cab drivers, the duo finally found a Bangladeshi cab driver named Mohammed Alam at LaGuardia Airport in Queens. Alam agreed to do the east-west road trip for $5,000, which ended up being quite a bargain; some estimate the trip to cost about $17,000 with the meter running. The three left on April 16 and finally arrived in Los Angeles this past Friday after taking detours by the Grand Canyon. According to Belitsky's Twitter page, the motley crue of road warriors is currently living it up in Vegas before trekking back east in the cab. Check out CNN's report about the unusual -- but all around awesome -- road trip after the jump.

Here's KUSA's report from a few days ago.

Props to these guys who just straight up living the dream. For more videos from Belitsky and Wuebben's road trip, check out their YouTube page.
