Maryland University Does Something Every College Should Have Done Years Ago

Finally, colleges and universities are moving into the new millennium. Took long enough.

The University of Maryland University College plans to eliminate textbooks this fall to save students money by using resources online.

Kara Van Dam, a vice provost, said Thursday students will be able use a variety of materials like readings and videos online at no cost.

Now I’m not advocating the removal of all books, I think students should still be reading novels and certain texts on good old fashioned dead trees, but spending a couple of hundred bucks on a hardcover text book is old school stupidity.

There’s absolutely no reason that in 2015, a college student shouldn’t have access to every textbook and required material right on their laptop or iPad.
