There’s an old joke about baseball, I want to say I heard it either from a commentator or a stand up comic, that goes “every guy is leading the league in something.” It’s funnier now, because with Sabermetrics, it really is possible to be scrub and still be tops in the league in some obscure category.
This is the same of colleges — there are so many damn internet lists that eventually every college ranks. The biggest party schools, worst party school, school with the best education, best dorms, biggest assholes and most delicious cafeteria desserts. And even if a school doesn’t make a list, fuck it, they can make a list up. It’s the internet!
Speaking of made up lists, Niche released a list of the friendliest colleges in America and it’s littered with schools I’ve never fucking heard of and a couple I wouldn’t enroll at for all the smiles in Utah.
Niche surveyed over 55,000 current students and recent alumni to find which schools have the friendliest students. They asked the students for their opinions on how friendly the students are at their own college or alma mater, and put together these rankings from that.
Doesn’t it all depend on when you ask? Ask in the first week, everyone seems like a peach. Ask near the end of the fall semester and everyone is pretty much an asshole on two feet. Also, if anyone asked “is your school friendly?” are you going to really say “nah, I’m going to class with a bunch of dicks”?
Here’s the list of the friendliest colleges but it’s more like “schools that should probably be a last resort.”
