Absolutely terrible news to wake up to this morning. 7 people are dead, including the gunman, after a mass shooting in the community of Isla Vista right by Santa Barbara. Via KTLA:

The name of the shooter, who apparently acted alone, was being withheld until a positive identification could be made, according to a statement issued by the Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Office.

Sheriff’s investigators were “analyzing written and video evidence that suggests this was a pre-meditated mass murder,” the statement said.

Deputies responded about 9:27 p.m. after callers reported gunfire in the coastal community located just west of the college campus. The deputies found several victims suffering from gunshot wounds and were performing first aid when, minutes later, there were additional reports of shots fired at several other locations in the area, authorities said. Meanwhile, a description of the suspect’s vehicle was broadcast to local law enforcement.

Truly devastating news. Thoughts to UC Santa Barbara and all those impacted by such a senseless act of violence.
