underrated women list 2012

Unlike our list of the 66 most overrated women of 2012, this group of ladies, in our opinion, doesn't get the hype they deserve. They could. They should. But you know what's really nice about these ladies? That even though it would probably be beneficial to their careers, none of them are media hounds. So refreshing. These are your 66 most underrated women of 2012.

After making a name for herself as a teen actor in several Disney Channel films, Panabaker, now 24 is looking to make her mark with a more mature audience. Appearing in films like The Crazies, Friday the 13th, and Piranha 3DD have been nice, but perhaps the three movies she's set to appear in during 2013 will finally make her a breakout star as an adult.

Photo: YouTube

You may remember her as Odette Yustman when she was on October Road, but she's married and now it's Annable and under her new surname she's been acting up a storm on Breaking In and House. Now if we can just get another starring role in a film like the one she had in Cloverfield.

Photo: YouTube

Everyone knows Freida Pinto for playing the role of Latika in the 2008 Academy Award winning film Slumdog Millionaire, but since then she's had trouble landing another plum role (sorry, Rise of the Planet of the Apes doesn't count). We'll see if Knight of Cups and Desert Dancer, two films she's in set for release in 2013, are the roles that get her back on track.

Photo: YouTube

You may know her as Jane Sterling from Mad Men. Or Lucy Montgomery from As The World Turns. Or as Nicole Kirby from FlashForward. Or you may be like a lot of people and not know her at all. You should. She's pretty good.

Photo: YouTube

What would you say about a model who has appeared in the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue three times, on the covers of Cosmopolitan, Glamour, Vogue and Elle, and in ads for Guess, Macy's, Izod, Polo, and Redken? We'd say she is a model who deserves more of our attention.

Photo: YouTube

If you ever watched the ABC Family television show Kyle XY then you already knew who Jaimie Alexander when she popped up as Sif in Thor. She's no newbie to the acting scene either since she's been doing theater since grade school. Get ready to see a lot more of her in 2012 and 2013 since she's set to appear in four films including The Last Stand with Arnold Scwarzenegger, and, of course, Thor 2.

Photo: YouTube

Unfortunately, the roles Emily Blunt has played for the most part aren't particularly sexy ones. Combine that with the fact that she manages to steer clear of all the celebrity gossip nonsense that goes on in Hollywood and you can see why her name rarely comes up when discussing talented actresses. Her three Golden Globe Award nominations and one win say that is an oversight.

Photo: YouTube

Daughter of musician Lenny Kravitz and actress Lisa Bonet, 23 year-old Zoe was last seen in the 2011 film X-Men: First Class and on the HBO series Californication. Whether by choice or not, Kravitz hasn't kicked her acting career into overdrive yet, but with an upcoming appearance in After Earth, a sci-fi thriller directed by M. Night Shyamalan starring Will Smith, that may be about to change.

Photo: YouTube

After her role in Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen we thought for sure Isabel Lucas was on her way. Granted she was pretty good in Immortals, but that big time starring role has yet to come her way. Perhaps when the reboot of Red Dawn also starring Chris Hemsworth (yes, Thor) finally gets released it'll be her golden ticket.

Photo: YouTube

If you saw the film Captain America: The First Avenger you know full well who British actress Hayley Atwell is. Unfortunately, we haven't seen this 30 year-old rising star since. That will change shortly as she is set to appear in two films before the year is over, I, Anna and The Sweeney.

Photo: YouTube

After pretty much disappearing from the spotlight for a decade Danes is back in a big way playing Carrie Mathison on the Showtime series Homeland - a role for which she's already received a Golden Globe award for best actress in a television series drama. Hopefully feature films are next on her to-do list.

Photo: YouTube

23 year-old Nina Dobrev has carved out a nice niche on TV as the star of the teen drama The Vampire Diaries, but it's films that we really want to see her in (not to mention anything that's not a teen drama). Luckily for us, she'll be taking the first steps on this path later this year starring in The Perks of Being a Wallflower alongside Emma Watson, Paul Rudd, and Kate Walsh.

Photo: YouTube

Sadly, Summer Glau's TV shows like Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles and The Cape never got the traction they needed, because we love seeing her play a badass. And apparently we're not the only one who feels that way because her next project is the film Knights of Badassdom.

Photo: YouTube

Aimee is a Friday Night Lights alum that we're still expecting big things from. Just 22 years-old, Teegarden is currently working on a TV pilot called The Selection, and will star in the 2012 film Love and Honor alongside Liam Hemsworth and Teresa Palmer.

Photo: YouTube

When Taylor hit the American movie scene in the first Transformers film, it looked like she was headed for a big career in Hollywood. Unfortunately her roles on Grey's Anatomy and the reboot of Charlie's Angels were short-lived, not giving her the chance to generate the fanbase that we think she deserves.

Photo: YouTube

Adrianne has had trouble finding the right role since Friday Night Lights came to a close. We thought playing Wonder Woman would be huge, but then the show got scrapped while in production. Perhaps playing the lead female role in G.I. Joe: Retaliation will be her golden ticket, whenever it actually comes out.

Photo: YouTube

If you're male and reading this there's a pretty good chance you know Laura Vandervoort as Supergirl from the TV series Smallville. Unfortunately, since then we haven't seen as much of her as we'd like. She was on the sci-fi show V on ABC for a couple of years, but she hasn't grabbed that big-time role yet. Perhaps her upcoming film, the comedy drama Life of the Party due out in 2013 will be a step on that path.

Photo: YouTube

Fans of Troy, National Treasure: Book of Secrets and Inglourious Basterds know what a talent German actress and model Diane Kruger is. Sadly her most recent starring role as Queen Marie Antoinette in Farewell, My Queen was released on just a limited basis in America in July. Now we have to wait until next year to catch in her in the big screen adaptation of the Stephenie Meyer novel The Host or in the next National Treasure flick in 2014.

Photo: YouTube

With a resume boasting starring roles on the TV series The O.C., Entourage, and No Ordinary Family, Autumn Reeser knows a thing or two about acting. That's why you'll be seeing her in another starring role in an an upcoming American military drama on ABC called Last Resort.

Photo: YouTube

Without a Trace fans were glad to see 37 year-old Aussie Poppy Montgomery grab the lead role in the television series Unforgettable in 2011. Now we just hope that she can just turn that TV success into a starring role in a feature film.

Photo: YouTube

Fans of the TV show Parks and Recreation know something that the rest of the world doesn't: that the daughter of legendary music producer Quincy Jones has developed into a superstar in her own right.

Photo: YouTube

With roles on hit TV shows like CSI: NY and Two and a Half Men one would think that Emmaunuelle would be more of a household name than she is. Unfortunately since leaving those shows she's kind of bounced around, yet to land that one plum role that truly displays her talents.

Photo: YouTube

If you blinked you may have missed 21 year-old Australian actress Margot Robbie in lead role on the ABC drama Pan Am. Sadly, the show only ran for one season. There is still talk that the show may be picked up, but in the mean time Margot is keeping busy filming a couple movies, About Time, with Rachel McAdams, and The Wolf of Wall Street, directed by Martin Scorsese and starring Leonardo DiCaprio.

Photo: YouTube

Ever since Smallville went off the air, Kristin Kreuk pretty much dropped off the map, but now, at age 29, she's back with a new series on The CW called Beauty and the Beast, set to premiere in late 2012. Set your DVRs.

Photo: YouTube

For some reason, despite appearing in the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue from 2009 to 2011 Hilary Rhoda is not a name many think of when it comes to the top models. People should though since she was the twelfth highest earning supermodel in 2007 (when she was just 20 years-old) and she hasn't slowed down since.

Photo: YouTube

Fans of Veronica Mars and Fashion House were probably glad to see Katie Leclerc land the lead role in the TV series Switched at Birth. They were probably even happier that it became the highest rated show debut ever on ABC Family. Next up? Movies?

Photo: YouTube

Anyone who has seen the movies Insidious, X-Men: First Class or Bridesmaids knows what a talent Rose Byrne is as a film actress. Anyone who watched her on the FX series Damages knows what a talent she is as a TV actress. So why isn't she more famous?

Photo: YouTube

Granted she isn't the "star" of the Twilight films, but she's still pretty good in them. Unfortunately, she recently signed on for a TV pilot called Americana that ABC decided to pass on, so now we have wait a little longer to see what her post-Twilight career will look like.

Photo: YouTube

Gabrielle hasn't been very busy acting the last few years, but anyone that saw her in Good Deeds and Think Like a Man this year hopes that she appears in a couple more films in 2013 in addition to her starring role on the new BET series Being Mary Jane.

Photo: YouTube

Mean Girls graduate Amanda Seyfried, still just 26, has been in a lot of films but has yet to hit her peak. Mostly because the films were never the big budget flicks that make an actress a superstar. Perhaps her roles in the upcoming Lovelace biopic and Les Misérables will change all that.

Photo: YouTube

Twihards know Lefevre as the vampire Victoria in the first two Twilight flicks, but scheduling conflicts caused her to be replaced in the most recent films. Fans even created online petitions asking for her return, but her next big career move was starring as a doctor in the ABC drama Off the Map, which only lasted one season. Now she's joined the cast of another drama, this time on CBS called A Gifted Man, playing... a doctor.

Photo: YouTube

25 year-old Katie Cassidy, daughter of actor/singer David Cassidy, is best known for her roles on Supernatural, Melrose Place and Gossip Girl, but this year she tries to appeal to a slightly different audience with starring roles in the upcoming film Fencewalker, written and directed by the creator of The X-Files, and the television series Arrow about the superhero Green Arrow set to air on The CW this fall.

Photo: YouTube

You may know one of Hollywood's rising stars, Willa Holland, as Agnes Andrews from the teen drama Gossip Girl, and if you do and you're male, you probably wouldn't, nor shouldn't, admit it. But it will soon be okay to admit you know who Willa is because she'll part of the eagerly anticipated series about the Green Arrow with Katie Cassidy beginning October 10 of this year.

Photo: YouTube

Alexandra Daddario has the looks, but she just hasn't managed to land that one role to catapult her into superstardom yet. Fans of White Collar on USA and the Percy Jackson films know that day is certainly coming, it's just a matter of when.

Photo: YouTube

Did you see Sucker Punch? Pretty cool. So was Limitless. How about W.E.? Ha! No one saw that. But we're betting that you will see Abbie in the reboot of Robocop coming out in 2013. Between now and then she'll be in three other films The Girl, Whisperings and Lies, and Seven Psychopaths. Sounds fun.

Photo: YouTube

Despite a nice acting resume, Eva Green is still relatively unknown to most American movie fans. Perhaps her role in Tim Burton's Dark Shadows will be the role that finally puts her on more fans' radar. Probably not, but we're holding out hope.

Photo: YouTube

We had hoped that gorgeous and classy 24 year-old actress Camilla Belle would be more on the radar of film fans by now, but it hasn't happened yet. 10,000 B.C. and From Prada to Nada just didn't do the trick. She is set to appear in four films during 2012 and 2013 so keep your eyes open because she has real potential to be a star.

Photo: YouTube

26 year-old Alice Greczyn is a veteran of TV and film, but rarely gets mentioned when discussing up and coming actresses. Perhaps it's because she doesn't go out of her way to seek the spotlight. However, anyone who has seen her on the TV show The Lying Game knows this young lady has got loads of untapped potential.

Photo: YouTube

If you have happened to catch a few episodes of the ABC comedy Suburgatory then you know why 22 year-old Jane Levy is a big reason why the show being picked up for a second season. Better yet she'll be starring in the anticipated remake of the movie The Evil Dead, set to be released sometime in 2013.

Photo: YouTube

Fans of the series NCIS: Los Angeles know former Portuguese soap opera star Daniela Ruah very well for her role as Special Agent Kensi Blye, so much like us they were probably looking forward to seeing her American film debut in Red Tails. Unfortunately the film didn't turn out to be much of a box office hit, but at least we still have her on NCIS until the next, hopefully bigger and better film role comes calling.

Photo: YouTube

Lea Michele, Dianna Agron, and even Heather Morris all garner a lot of attention for their performances on Glee, but it's Naya Rivera that we love. Playing a cheerleader doesn't hurt. But at age 25 her time playing a high school student should be nearing an end and we're looking forward to seeing what her next career move will be. Perhaps it will be that solo album that she signed a deal with Columbia Records to make back in 2011.

Photo: YouTube

Unfortunately, appearing on the ABC Family show Pretty Little Liars hasn't made Lucy Hale the star we think she's going to be, but it's a good start. Only 23 years-old, she still has a lot of time to find that breakout movie role (appearing in Scream 4 doesn't count).

Photo: YouTube

Despite acting on TV shows like All My Children, Mad Men, and HawthoRNe since 1999 Abigail Spencer has yet to land that killer role putting her on the map as an A-lister. She's making her way there though with excellent performances in the films Cowboys & Aliens and This Means War and the lead role in the upcoming thriller The Haunting in Georgia as well as a part in the eagerly anticipated Oz: The Great and Powerful.

Photo: YouTube

Hard to believe that Lyndsy Fonseca just turned 25 because she's been a very busy actress appearing in Hot Tub Time Machine, Kick-Ass, in addition to 84 episodes of The Young and the Restless, 52 episodes of How I Met Your Mother, 18 episodes of Desperate Housewives, and now over 40 episodes of her current show Nikita. She is the definition of an actress.

Photo: YouTube

You may know British actress Gemma Arterton as a former Bond Girl or from her breakout performance as Princess Tamina in Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time, but it will be her roles as Clara in Byzantium and Gretel in Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters, also starring Jeremy Renner, that will hopefully make her a household name.

Photo: YouTube

She's just so damn cute. Be it on TV shows Glee and Ugly Betty or in the movies Paul Blart: Mall Cop and The Smurfs, anytime Jayma is on the screen you just can't help but smile. Get ready for more happy faces as she'll be reprising her role as Grace Winslow in The Smurfs 2 in 2013.

Photo: YouTube

Fans of Grey's Anatomy, Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles, One Tree Hill and CSI: Miami all know how talented Leven Rambin is, but those roles were unfortunately short-lived. Perhaps her role in this summer's blockbuster The Hunger Games will be the stepping stone she deserves to get her a more regular gig.

Photo: YouTube

For some reason, when it comes to discussing the top singers in the business these days, Ciara is often passed over. Maybe it's because she doesn't continuously post racy pictures on Twitter or dress like a fool. Whatever the reason, she deserves more love since she's sold over seven million albums and won a Grammy.

Photo: YouTube

Lily Collins, the daughter of legendary musician Phil Collins, now has a couple of major movie roles under her belt: Priest, and the lead role in Mirror Mirror alongside Julia Roberts. Next up in 2013? Writers with Jennifer Connelly and Greg Kinnear, and the lead role in The City of Bones, the movie adaptation of the best-selling book The Mortal Instruments.

Photo: YouTube

Ever since she appeared in Quantum of Solace we've been wanting to see more of this 32 year-old Russian. Luckily for us she's now part of a great cast on the Starz show Magic City and is set to appear in four more films by the end of 2013.

Photo: YouTube

Piper Perabo first got the attention of men with her role in Coyote Ugly, but that was eons ago. She's definitely back now though and better than ever now as her Golden Globe nomination for her role on the TV show Covert Affairs more than attests.

Photo: YouTube

Despite appearing in 35 episodes of LOST and starring in several feature films Grace has yet to become a household name. Though we're guessing that all the Twi-hards know who she is since she's appeared in both parts of the Twilight: Breaking Dawn flicks.

Photo: YouTube

Star Trek, G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra, Conan the Barbarian, Criminal Minds... this is a girl after men's hearts. It doesn't hurt that she actually started her career as model either. Next up, the eagerly anticipated film, Alex Cross.

Photo: YouTube

As anyone who has seen her portray FBI agent Olivia Dunham on the Fox series Fringe knows, Anna Torv has made a stellar transition from acting in Australia to plying her craft in Hollywood. Now if we can just get her a juicy role to play on film, something she has yet to do since coming to America.

Photo: YouTube

People who were fans of the sci-fi series Caprica know what a talent Alessandra Torresani is, but since then haven't had much of a chance to see her ply her craft. That's because she's spent the last year plus working on a Web-only series called Husbands, which is set to return for season two on August 15 at HusbandsTheSeries.com.

Photo: YouTube

Unfortunately being on the ABC Family show The Secret Life of the American Teenager since 2008 hasn't translated into mainstream awareness for Olstead. Not even alleged leaked naked pictures a couple of years ago did the trick. But did you know she has also recorded five studio albums? They're all pretty much jazz so unfortunately, that hasn't helped either. Still, an amazing talent.

Photo: YouTube

Before Rooney Mara played the role here in the States, Noomi Rapace portrayed Lisbeth Salander in The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo over in Europe. She's also not doing too shabby here in America as anyone who caught her in Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows or Prometheus is well aware.

Photo: YouTube

For some reason Mary Elizabeth can't seem to catch a break. We thought Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter might be the role that vaulted her to superstardom, but alas, that doesn't appear to be the case. Next up: the films Smashed and A Glimpse Inside the Mind of Charles Swan III.

Photo: YouTube

Saoirse Ronan, who just turned 18 in April, has been acting since she was 9 years-old, and it shows, as anyone who has seen her in The Lovely Bones and Hanna will attest. Keep an eye on her later this year as she will be appearing in two more films, Violet & Daisy, a movie about about two teenage assassins, and Byzantium, a film about a mother and daughter vampire duo (with Gemma Arterton), plus the previously mentioned film The Host in 2013.

Photo: YouTube

Anyone that's seen Sucker Punch, Sleeping Beauty, and Lemony Snicket's A Series of Unfortunate Events knows that Australian actress Emily Browning is one of the up and coming actresses of her generation, and at age 23 she's just getting started. She's set to star in four films between now and the end of 2013, so keep an eye out.

Photo: YouTube

Mary-Kate and Ashley's younger sister had a breakout year in 2012 playing the lead role in Martha Marcy May Marlene, which was her film debut. Not a bad start, and now she's been cast in five more films that will be released in 2012 and 2013, including Very Good Girls with Dakota Fanning co-starring.

Photo: YouTube

Fans of the Starz drama Boss know that British actress Hannah Ware is an actress with star potential. Unfortunately if you haven't caught that show or seen her in the film Shame with Michael Fassbender and Carey Mulligan you didn't know she existed. Now you do.

Photo: YouTube

This former fashion model has made a very successful transition over to acting having appeared in the movies Priest and Mission: Impossible III and is now in her third season playing the main character on the CW reboot of Nikita.

Photo: YouTube

When it comes to naming the top models in the world, rarely is Joan Smalls name mentioned. Perhaps it's because other than being one of the top five models in the world she doesn't do anything else worthy of attention. In other words, she's just really, really good at her job. So refreshing.

Photo: YouTube

For some reason French beauty Marion Cotillard continues to fly under the radar despite, you know, being a French beauty. Oh, and being an Academy Award winning actress. Perhaps the fact that the film she won the award for was in French had something to do with her lack of noteriety; something sure to change now that she's been in The Dark Knight Rises.

Photo: YouTube

Despite an acting resume that's about a mile long, rarely is Carla Gugino mentioned when it comes to the best actresses of her generation. Which begs the question, if she isn't one of the best actresses, why is it that she's been in over 40 movies and on over 20 TV shows? The answer: because she's really damn good at her job.
