For much of the online voting period Miley Cyrus was actually leading the balloting for Time’s Person of the Year. Thankfully sanity prevailed and the honor went to Pope Francis. My goodness, can you just imagine if she had actually won?

Pope Francis didn’t actually win the online voting though. That was actually won by Egypt’s General Abdul Fattah al-Sisi with 26.2 percent of the vote. Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan came in second with Cyrus still getting the third most amount of votes at 16.3 percent. None of them, however, actually finished in the true final top five because when it comes right down to it Time editors actually create the list and this their official top five.

1. Pope Francis
2. Edward Snowden
3. Edith Windsor
4. Bashar Assad
5. Ted Cruz

So see, the voting in the Time Person of the Year award counts just about as much as your vote in pretty much any other election. Power to the people!
