Julianne Hough wore a blackface Halloween costume, then apologized, of course

Julianne Hough wore blackface to a Halloween costume party over the weekend and in doing so kept the rate at which someone will be offended by white people wearing blackface at 100%.

The reason for the blackface was because Hough and a few friends dressed up as characters from the Netflix show Orange is the New Black and Julianne went as the character “Crazy Eyes” played by Uzo Aduba. Naturally, Hough felt the need to apologize the next day.

“I am a huge fan of the show Orange Is the New Black, actress Uzo Aduba, and the character she has created,” tweeted Hough. “It certainly was never my intention to be disrespectful or demeaning to anyone in any way. I realize my costume hurt and offended people and I truly apologize.”

Here’s a little tip one can put to use since it’s still a couple of days until Halloween: If you go in costume and feel the need to paint your face, stick with primary colors and don’t pretend to be someone from another race. Because no matter how innocent or funny you think it is, at least one person will offended. Amazingly, some people still haven’t figured this out.
