So... how about that game, huh? The Jeremy Lin Show appears to be the real deal, leading the Knicks without Carmelo Anthony and Amare Stoudemire to an impressive 92-85 win against the Lakers. Linsanity, indeed.

It terms of the sports year calendar, te conflicted emotions almost seems comically absurd: Wait, we're actually excited about the NBA in early February, merely a week after the Super Bowl? Isn't this the sport we're suppose to b*tch about ambivalently? Tthere's no reason to believe what we're seeing the Harvard Hammer/LES Couch Surfer do above Penn Station right now is the basketball equivalent of Tebowmania. Through his first three starts, he scored 89 points; a career high 38 points tonight. As unlikely as it is to have an Ivy League Asian economics student in the sports spotlight, the guy just Lins.

Unfortunately, in the delirium of the moment, an ugly side to Linsanity reared its head. Right after the win, FOXSports.com writer Jason Whitlock sent this tweet to his 100k+ followers: “Some lucky lady in NYC is gonna feel a couple inches of pain tonight.”

As of this writing, it's still live. Many will say this type of joke is fair game in most blog comment sections or message boards. And, yes, it's true, few would bat an eye if Louis CK or Anthony Cumia told it. But when it comes from a well respected sports journalist working for a major network's online channel, the public-at-large gets sensitive. In the real-time web, the backlash started immediatel. Remember, this is coming from Jason Whitlock, a man who's molded his entire career schtick around writing about racism and racial stereotypes in sports. Many are already asking for him to get the axe:

So... Does Whitlock get fired? Or does the "drunk with Linsanity" excuse get him off the hook? Oh, and in good Lin-Twitter news, there's this:
